Quick and Easy Wireframe Renders in Blender

Tutorial / 23 November 2021
I recently stumbled on a quick and easy way to get a nice wireframe overlay on 3D models using Blenders viewport. No need to mark freestyle edge or any complicated settings. The result is very crisp and clean image that can be slapped on top of your renders as seen below.

In this post I'll be sharing :

  1. The process of getting a wireframe render in Blender
  2. The result
  3. The pros and cons to this approach

The Process:

Bellow you can find the steps to getting a wireframe render from Blenders viewport

The Result:

Really nice render with no add-ons, no hours of render time, and no headache.

Pros and Cons:

The Pros

  • Fast wireframe renders done in minutes, usually seconds.
  • Easy on your computer. My fans have never been so quiet.
  • Same process can be applied to animations! Instead of selecting 'Viewport render image, you'd click 'Viewport Render Animation'

The cons -

  • Not much editing can be done with this approach. You can adjust the color of the wireframe, but that's about it.
  • The process is very involved, but in comparison to other workflows I'm familiar with, this is still the easiest and fastest.
  • Can't render the texture and wireframe at the same time in Render mode. (if it's possible, I just haven't figured it out yet :P)
